The outrage over the relationship between Iran and Venezuela speaks volumes. I forget, it's Iran that is currently attacking Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and just bombed Iran....o wait nope, that's Isreal, my mistake.

No better way to have put this. Thank you for always pointing out this type of deplorable and conveniently-genocidal hypocrisy.

Timely and indispensable exposé. A terrific piece by compañero Emersberger. The US has a long history of creating, infiltrating and corrupting supposedly beneficent organisations, using them as cynical propaganda assets, spy outfits and regime change tools (AI, HRW, OPCW, USAID, NED, etc, etc.) to advance its vile imperial agenda. They constitute a powerful part of America's "soft power" weapons, and they are outlasting the Empire's military in world dominance.

Agree 100%

I use to sign their petitions but I did stop many years ago. If you can't fight an enemy buy him... that's the US policy.

This is an excellent and timely piece. Your point here is essential: Amnesty has long functioned as a tool of empire, giving cover to U.S. aggression behind the veil of “human rights.” As Gaza lays bare the brutality of that order, their demonization of Venezuela only becomes more transparent.

Thank you for calling it out without hesitation.

Very well said. I would have liked more détails on the people arrested and what the accusations are. Thanks Joe.

Amnesty is since long in the pocket of Empire, they dragged their feet calling Gaza a genocide and their reporting in the previous "mowing of the lawn" has been all but appalling. This NGO is not to be trusted.

Here in Australia we have the Harbour Bridge rally led by former Foreign Minister Bob Carr, whose claim to lead the Palestine march was his demand for assassination and execution of every single Hamas member involved in October 7th. For this, the weekend supporters of Palestine gave up their Sunday and got wet behind the zionist assassin in chief and his calls for mass murder of Palestinians. Palestine Action Group Sydney also adopted Mossad propaganda against Iran.

Yes Amnesty was an active participant in inciting genocide against Rohingya in 2017 by spreading false flag narrative spread by the Myanmar Authorities about massacre in Kha Maung Seik https://sabrangindia.in/nailing-lie-amnestys-report-hindu-rohingyas/

The author of the flawed Amnesty report, Tirana Hassan, was then promoted to Human Rights Watch director in Africa.

So although I'm in accord with much of what you say, I just think you're language is a bit awry.

I have noticed how Amnesty International’s focus on crimes being perpetrated in countries like Iran seems disproportionate given the crimes being perpetrated here in the UK and Western countries generally. And I do get the concept of controlled opposition. In fact I think the idea is fundamental to the way politics works in the UK and the US. It’s denoted in the well-known quote, “It doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always gets in.” Thank you for expanding my knowledge.

It’s much worse than a “disproportionate focus on crimes of official enemies“ as I explained in detail.

Similarly Ansar Allah and Hezbollah. All human orgs are inevitable flawed but some are forced for good: the governments of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Iran are solidly anti-genocide

I reject this moral relativism. It absolves us of the requirement of action to defend the defenseless. But it requires the kind of critical thinking contained in this Substack to determine which are truly evil.
